Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who hold a:

  • CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (Superseded) OR
  • CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (Superseded).

It is recommended that students be able to read, write, have numeracy skills and communicate in English to at least Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level five (5).

All prospective students are required to complete prior to enrolment a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) Assessment. This ensures a student’s skills and competencies including their language, literacy and numeracy proficiency and digital literacy are suitable for the training product in which they would like to enrol in. A Working with Children Check (Blue Card) is required for vocational placement and all workplace-based practical observation tasks.  Additional security clearances, checks, certificates and/or vaccinations (e.g. National Police Check, First Aid and/or flu shot etc.) may also be required by the owner and/or operator of the organisation where you undertake vocational placement and/or undertake any workplace-based practical observation tasks. These requirements will be provided to the student, prior to arrangements being made for the completion of vocational placement.   

The successful achievement of this qualification requires the completion of fifteen (15) units of competency, made up of twelve (12) core units and three (3) elective units, consisting of:

  • Two (2) units from the electives listed below
  • Up to one (1) unit from the list below, elsewhere in the CHC Community Services Training Package, or any other current Training Package or accredited course.

The selection of electives chosen must be guided by the job outcome sought, local sector requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.

The code and title of each unit are provided as well as an indication of pre-requisite requirements. Pre-requisite unit(s) must be assessed before assessment of any unit of competency with an asterisk.

  • CHCECE045 Foster positive and respectful interactions and behaviour in children
  • CHCECE046 Implement strategies for the inclusion of all children
  • CHCECE047 Analyse information to inform children’s learning
  • CHCECE048 Plan and implement children’s education and care curriculum
  • CHCECE049 Embed environmental responsibility in service operations
  • CHCECE050 Work in partnership with children’s families
  • CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice

Elective Units:

  • CHCINM002 Meet community information needs
  • CHCECE053 Respond to grievances and complaints about the service

To achieve this qualification, the student must have completed a total of at least two hundred and eighty (280) hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. The total number of hours may be approved collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours. The RTOis responsible for placement of all students.
