This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other educators.
Upon successful completion of all units of competency for this qualification, the student will be awarded CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (Superseded).
Career Boost (General Training) / Fee-For-Service students up to eighteen (18) months (full-time) study duration.
Career Boost (Apprenticeship) students up to thirty-six (36) months (full-time) / seventy-two (72) months (part-time) nominal duration.

It is recommended that students be able to read, write, have numeracy skills and communicate in English to at least Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level five (5).
All prospective students are required to complete prior to enrolment a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) Assessment. This ensures a student’s skills and competencies including their language, literacy and numeracy proficiency and digital literacy are suitable for the training product in which they would like to enrol in. A Working with Children Check (Blue Card) is required for vocational placement and all workplace-based practical observation tasks. Additional security clearances, checks, certificates and/or vaccinations (e.g. National Police Check, First Aid and/or flu shot etc.) may also be required by the owner and/or operator of the organisation where you undertake vocational placement and/or undertake any workplace-based practical observation tasks. These requirements will be provided to the student, prior to arrangements being made for the completion of vocational placement.
The successful achievement of this qualification requires the completion of fifteen (15) units of competency, made up of twelve (12) core units and three (3) elective units, consisting of:
The selection of electives chosen must be guided by the job outcome sought, local sector requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.

To achieve this qualification, the student must have completed a total of at least two hundred and eighty (280) hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. The total number of hours may be approved collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours. The RTO is responsible for placement of all students.
