Students must be an existing worker in the Disability industry sector, which includes parents and unpaid carers of NDIS participants;

AND

Completion of: CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) OR

Completion of: CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) OR

Completion of: CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability PLUS the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.

The Higher Level Skills Program has the following eligibility criteria, you must:

• be aged 15 years or over;
• be no longer at school;
• permanently reside in Queensland;
• be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;
• not hold a certificate IV or higher-level qualification, not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training; and
• not be enrolled in another qualification, not including foundation skills training.

In addition to the standards eligibility requirements, specific restrictions and/or exemptions may apply to participation in certain subsidised qualifications. Any additional eligibility requirements will be based on industry advice or requirements under the relevant national training package and will be detailed in the Priority Skills List.

To achieve this qualification; CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support, ten (10) units must be completed including seven (7) core units and three (3) elective units.

  • CHCCCS044 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports
  • CHCDIS017 Facilitate community participation and social inclusion
  • CHCDIS018 Facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centred approach
  • CHCDIS019 Provide person-centred services to people with disability with complex needs
  • CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance
  • CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues
  • HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety

Elective Units

  • CHCDIS020 Work effectively in disability support
  • CHCCCS036 Support relationships with carer and family
  • CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach

Given the increased benefits that you can gain from higher-level training, you are required to contribute to the cost of your training through a co-contribution fee. The fee may be paid on your behalf by an employer or another third party but cannot be paid or waived by the training provider, or any organisation related to the training provider, unless approved by the Department of Trade Education and Training (DTET). The Student Co-Contribution Fee for eligible students under the Higher Level Skills (HLS) Program for this qualification is $50 concessional or $100 no concessional. This fee will be required to be paid in full prior to training course commencing.

There is no formal work placement hours required, however some skills and tasks are required to be demonstrated in the workplace. 

Please note: Prior to placement you will need to complete both a Working with Children Blue Card and NDIS Workers Screening Check. If either screening checks identifies that you have a criminal history, you may be disqualified from being eligible to undertake placement and assessment, which would affect your course outcomes. You may also need to provide a First Aid Certificate, Federal Police Check, Manual Handling Certificate and/or relevant vaccination records.
