This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.
These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.
Upon successful completion of all units of competency for this qualification, the student will be awarded CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and/or Disability) and will earn up to eight (8) Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) credits.
Career Start (General Training) / Fee-For-Service students up to twelve (12) months (full-time) study duration.
Career Start (Traineeship) students up to twelve (12) months (full-time) / twenty-four (24) months (part-time/school-based) nominal duration.
There are no entry requirements for this qualification.
While there are no formal course entry requirements, it is recommended that students be able to read, write, have numeracy skills and communicate in English to at least Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) level three (3).
All prospective students are required to complete prior to enrolment a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) Assessment. This ensures a student’s skills and competencies including their language, literacy and numeracy proficiency and digital literacy are suitable for the training product in which they would like to enrol in. A NDIS Workers Screening Check (Yellow Card) is required for vocational placement and all workplace-based practical observation tasks. Additional security clearances, checks and/or certificates (e.g. National Police Check, Working with Children Check (Blue Card), First Aid and/or Manual Handling certificate/s etc.) may also be required by the owner and/or operator of the organisation where you undertake vocational placement and/or undertake any workplace-based practical observation tasks. These requirements will be provided to the student, prior to arrangements being made for the completion of vocational placement.
The successful achievement of this qualification requires the completion of fifteen (15) units of competency, made up of nine (9) core units and six (6) elective units, consisting of:
Any combination of electives that meets the rules above can be selected for the award of the Certificate III in Individual Support. Where appropriate, electives may be packaged to provide a qualification with a specialisation as outlined below.

All electives chosen must contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.
The code and title of each unit are provided as well as an indication of pre-requisite requirements. Pre-requisite unit(s) must be assessed before assessment of any unit of competency with an asterisk.

To achieve this qualification, the student must have completed at least one hundred and twenty (120) hours of direct support work in at least one (1) aged care, home and community, disability or community service organisation as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. The RTO is responsible for placement of all students.
